Synopsis

Contender is a film about cadence and the rythyms of boxing movement. Boxers undertake a gruelling physical regime in order to train their body to move instinctively under immense physical and psychological pressure. They are confined by space and time in their bout for supremacy and must eke out their opponent’s weaknesses without ever displaying their own.

Contender takes you into the dichotomous world of boxing; into a battle of wits, physical prowess and crucial timing. Long before the bout the boxer must know that the sport is all at once exposing and claustophobic, instinctive and repetitious, disciplined and deft, agile and explosive, psychological and physical.

And then you have to fight.
